Emergency services descend after 'chemical leak' at Sheppey Leisure Centre

Emergency services - including three fire engines - descended on Sheppey Leisure Centre this afternoon to a reported chemical leak.

While that was found to be a false alarm, one man needed medical treatment at the centre in Broadway and was then taken to hospital as a precaution.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 3.56pm to Sheppey Leisure Complex in Broadway, Sheerness following a report of a man sustaining minor injuries.

"Officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue attended the scene. The matter has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive."

Swale Community Leisure Limited, which runs the centre, says it will issue a statement about the incident on Monday.

It was open this morning as normal.
