A father-of-two has been re-admitted to hospital after an infection brought short his planned return home.
In August, an explosion at Andrew Foster’s job at Highway Care Ltd, Detling, broke every bone in his face and left him with a bleed on the brain and severe damage to his eyes.
The 36-year-old has been in hospitals since and it was hoped he was well enough to return home for good.
On Thursday, he stayed the night with his family in New Road, Minster, but the next day he had to go back to Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury, after a doctor found he had cellulitis near his eye socket.
The infection was successfully dealt with and he was later transferred to The William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, where he is staying for the foreseeable future.
Wife Donna Foster, 34, said their children Keenan, 13, and Kirstie, seven, were disappointed their dad had come home only to have to go back to hospital.
The 34-year-old said: “They loved having him home and [Andrew] kept walking around saying, ‘I can’t believe I’m here’.”
Andrew, who is a Sheppey rugby youth coach, continues to make encouraging progress in his recovery.
This week doctors have put a metal plate in his mouth that will help him to eat and drink.
He has been able to try yoghurt and has had his first cup of tea since the accident.
