Sheppey was gridlocked after a live power cable crashed onto a main road this morning.
It is believed a telegraph pole was hit by a caravan transporter in Lower Road, Eastchurch.
Police were called at 7.30am.
A spokesman for KCC Highways said: "The road has been closed in both directions due to a fallen telegraph pole and live wires in the carriageway.
"Expect delays in the surrounding areas.
"Please use alternative routes and allow extra time for your journey."
Slow traffic was reported around the village and drivers were advised to approach with care.
A school bus was caught up in the traffic and children had got off.
A Travelmasters spokesman said: "A post has fallen and blocked a road in Eastchurch and the late L bus is stuck in it.
"Please get on another Travelmasters 370 service if you are waiting."
Police and UK Power Networks engineers remained at the site and the road stayed closed until the telegraph pole is repaired.
The road reopened at 10.25am.
