A mother and daughter have set out to help children who may be less fortunate during the third national lockdown.
Emily Ewart and 11-year-old Mia Kite from Rushenden, Sheppey, have set up a fundraising campaign to buy educational books and activities for youngsters being home-schooled.
Emily said her daughter, who goes to Queenborough School, wanted to start the appeal after she saw the scandal over the free school meal parcels being sent to families on the news.
The 30-year-old said: “We were discussing how some people don’t have as much as others, and some don’t have enough for educational bits, which is even harder for families having to home-school their children.
“Mia asked if we could start a fundraising page to get school bits for children locally.”
Emily subsequently set up a GoFundMe page in an attempt to raise £1,000 and she also set up an Amazon Wish List with items people can order for youngsters including reading and handwriting books, educational games and science kits.
“All people have to do is click the link, pick what they want to buy, pay and it’ll be delivered to our house,” Emily said.
“We will then either hand over the bits to families who need them or give them to the school to give out.”
She added: “We’d like people to get in touch with us if they need help or if they know of any families that do.”
Emily said she and Mia had already received a number of parcels from Amazon.
“We want to say thank you to everyone who’s helping out,” she said.
Mia added: “I wanted to start this because it will help children get educational help when they can’t afford it.
“It is important to me because all children should have a good education and have the chance to be what they want to be when they grow up.”
