The family of a six-year-old who died from an incurable cancer have announced they will be setting up a group to help others in her honour.
A Touch of Joules will be dedicated to helping children with terminal or life-limiting illnesses in memory of Joules Smith from Minster on Sheppey.
In December, Joe and Elisha announced their “beautiful little princess” had died peacefully after a seven-month battle with cancer.
Joules was diagnosed with midline glioma, an aggressive brain tumour in May and devastatingly been given just months to live.
Since then, her family had been doing all they could to raise awareness of childhood cancer by starting the TikTok trend Dance for Joules, and releasing a book on her life, which she had helped create before her passing.
Now, they are hoping to take a further step and are setting up a not-for-profit to give back to other families going through the same thing.
Joe said: “When Joules was diagnosed, we always said we would want to give back somehow and to work with families going through similar experiences to us or, children with life-limiting illnesses.
“Sally, who wrote her book, wanted to help in other ways too so we said why don’t the three of us set something up to help.”
A Touch of Joules will officially be launched at a black tie event on May 9 at The Ferry House in Leysdown, where the family would often go for dinner with Joules.
“She loved it there and they gifted us the hiring of the venue which is so kind,” he dad added.
“We have had so many lovely gifts for our raffle that night too – it’s our first event so we want it to be special.”
The group will offer both emotional and financial assistance to families, as well as recognise care workers who dedicate themselves to children with terminal or life-limiting conditions and provide them with support.
It will also work alongside other not-for-profits that share its “mission” of helping other families in need.
In a statement, Joe, Ellisha and Sally said: “We hope you will join us on this journey and help make a difference in Joules’ name.
“She has touched and continues to touch the hearts of so many people across the world.
“Joules' legacy of love, kindness and strength will continue to shine through everything we do.”
