Former Barclays Bank in Sheerness could be converted to flats

A former Barclays Bank, unused for the past two years, may be given a new lease of life.

TT Residential Property Services has applied for planning permission from Swale council to convert the building at 12/14 Broadway in Sheerness into two commercial units and four flats.

The Barclays Bank branch closed down on August 19, 2022.

The two commercial units would occupy the ground floor, with storage in the basement.

The first and second floors of the three-storey building would each be converted into two one-bedroom flats.

Rear parking would be increased from two to three spaces and an emergency escape staircase to the upper floor would also be created at the back.

The building, although it has a modern frontage, is part of a terrace of Georgian properties built in 1830 and is Grade II-listed.

The applicants, who want to sub-divide the existing ground floor arrangement, demolish a rear outhouse, and erect a rear extension, have therefore also had to apply for listed planning consent.
