A football club is slashing its prices on Saturday to £5 and will be handing over all the cash to charity.

Sheppey United is rolling back its entrance fee to 2015 prices and will give the money to the Island's Care4Christmas appeal.

The club's commercial director Paul Rogers said: "This is our way of giving something back to the community. The more supporters we get in, the more we can give away."

The club is charging £5 for adults, £3 for pensioners and £1 for under-18s. Under-sevens go free.

Kick-off for its home game against Erith and Belvedere at the Havill Stadium at Holm Park, Queenborough Road, Halfway, is at 3pm.

Ellott Park Primary School has already donated £2,695.80 after staging a charity event at Stones Nursery.

Care4Christmas on Sheppey has been running for more than 25 years and provides a range of services from putting children’s gifts under trees to helping parents pay energy bills.

One of the organisers, Carol Wraight, said: “We rely on people’s generosity every year and they never let us down. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to help people at Christmas so we are very grateful for all the help.

“We’ll be looking for tinned and dry food, presents for children, hampers for adults, and volunteers and we’ll be open Christmas Day and Boxing Day for meals for the old, lonely and homeless.”

From next Thursday, until Boxing Day, the church hall in Sheerness Broadway will be open from 10am to 4pm to take in donations.

Volunteers will also be making up food hampers and wrapping gifts.

Free lunches will be held on Christmas Day and Boxing Day at the Community Church for those who would like company.

Lifts can be organised for those who don’t have transport.
