High tides expected this afternoon (Friday) (Feb 4)have triggered four flood alerts along the Kent coast from Dartford to Margate.

The Environment Agency has warned residents living along the coast that flooding is possible two hours either side of high tide between 1pm and 5pm.

A spokesman said: "Strong winds and unsettled weather could cause higher water levels than normal."

He warned: "Please be careful in areas around the coast during this period of concern and avoid contact with flood waters present. We will continue to monitor this situation and have staff prepared to respond if needed."

The unsettled weather is likely to continue over the coming days so further periods of flooding are possible.

High tide at Sheerness is at 2.45pm with a height of 3.6m

Dartford to Allhallows: Flooding will affect lower lying locations nearest the Thames throughout this area, particularly between Town Pier and the promenade at Gravesend.

Tidal Medway, Medway estuary and Isle of Grain: Flooding will affect lower lying locations nearest the Medway Estuary throughout this area, particularly around Strood and Upnor.

Sheppey and coast from Kemsley to Seasalter: Flooding will affect lower lying locations nearest the coast throughout this area, particularly around Faversham Creek and Conyer.

Whitstable to Margate: Flooding will affect lower lying locations nearest the coast throughout this area between Whitstable and Margate, particularly around Seasalter.
