ROAD checks and witness appeals are being made in Sheppey this weekend following the fatal stabbing of black teenager Christopher Alaneme.

The 18-year-old's death in Sheerness a week ago is being treated by Kent Police as a racially-motivated killing.

Officers will be on patrol and a mobile police station will be set up in the area around Sheerness High Street.

Three men remain in custody over the stabbing. Another has been bailed and a fifth man is still being sought.

Police have named the fifth man as Peter Connolly, 29, of Commercial Way in Peckham, south-east London. Anyone who knows his whereabouts is being urged to contact police.

A 26-year-old and a 29-year-old arrested in London, along with a man who was held in the Maidstone area, are being questioned on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Supt Steve Corbishley said: "I am appealing for anyone with any information, no matter how trivial they think it may be, to come forward and talk to us.

"Our officers will be ready to talk to people about this tragic incident and offer support to those who need it."

Mr Alaneme who was also known as Christian Roberts, died after being knifed last Friday night.

A 29-year-old white man, who has not been identified, was also stabbed during the incident and is stable in hospital with non-life threatening injuries
