Generous Islanders have come up trumps with donations after a break-in at a children’s respite centre.
Last week we reported how a TV, Xbox and controllers worth around £650 were stolen from Preston Skreens in Minster.
Jasmine Newbury, whose 17-year-old brother Jordan uses the centre, was so sickened by the theft she set about raising money to replace the equipment.
She put a number of collection boxes in town centre shops to raise money and thinks hundreds of pounds has been donated.
A woman also phoned up to donate an Xbox to the centre and Derek Collins, who has a caravan on Sheppey and read the story, phoned up to offer them a TV.
The Isle of Sheppey Round Table has also donated a TV and an Xbox with some games.
Jasmine, 20, said she was really pleased with how generous people have been.
Bev Panes, clinical sister at the centre in Minster Road, said they had been overwhelmed by people’s support.
“We have been inundated,” she said. “That people will come out and do that is really great and we are very appreciative.”
She added that although they are extremely grateful for the support, they have got enough donations now and wouldn’t want people to send in any more.
Police are still appealing for information about the break-in.
