Girl in hanging tragedy had rowed with parents

A POST mortem was being carried out today into the death of 15-year-old schoolgirl Amy Gilbert who was found hanged in her bedroom on Christmas Day.

Amy died in the early hours of last Wednesday morning at her home in Cecil Avenue, Sheerness. She had been out with her parents on Christmas Eve but had fallen out with them when they said she could not go clubbing with friends.

She was found hanged several hours later and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics who were unable to resuscitate her.

Amy's family are still trying to come to terms with the tragedy. Her father, Terry, thanked friends for their support and added: "She brought joy to so many people"

Amy, a pupil at Highsted Grammar School in Highsted Road, Sittingbourne, was a successful member of the Beachfield Swimming Squad in Sheerness.

Police are investigating the death but do not believe there were any suspicious circumstances. An inquest will be held.
