A 36-year-old man is today in a critical but stable condition after he set himself alight in Edenbridge Drive at Sheerness.

The man is currently in a special burns unit in an Essex hospital being monitored after he doused himself with petrol.

Police in Swale are investigating the incident which happened at around 8.15pm last night.

They were first alerted when the man ran into a property whose owner contacted the emergency services.
