“Three fire engines attended, as well as the technical rescue unit, and crews searched the area but no-one was located at the scene.”
The driver of the vehicle has since been found.
Fire crews left the scene shortly before 12.15am.
A spokesman for Kent Police added: “This was a single-vehicle collision reported to us at 10.10pm on Monday (February 5).
“Officers attended along with fire and ambulance crews.
“The driver had left the scene following the collision, and the police helicopter was used to check the area in case they were injured during the incident and remained nearby.
“Nobody was located and inquiries later identified the owner while the vehicle was recovered.”
There were no reported injuries.
One onlooker said at the time: “All I can see are blue lights and cars turning back round to come back to Sheerness.”
