Ice halts trains on the Sheerness to Sittingbourne railway line

The Sheerness to Sittingbourne branch line has now re-opened having been closed overnight following a sudden drop in temperature.

Rail services on the line were stopped due to ice on the conductor rail which supplies power to the trains.

Buses replaced trains until 9am this morning when the temperature warmed up.

A Southeastern Trains spokesman said: “It was better to cancel all services from 11pm last night (Wednesday)rather than risk trains stopping between stations and having people freezing in the carriages.”
