A fun day held at a pub has raised money to buy equipment for young children.

The Ferry House Inn, at Harty, hosted the fundraiser on Wednesday in aid of Swale Special Needs Nursery.

It was formerly based at Preston Skreens in Minster but moved to the Orchards Centre, Attlee Way, Milton Regis, at the end of last year.

The group looks after around 16 children, aged up to five, from across the borough, who have learning difficulties.

At the fun day there was plenty going on from a bouncy castle and face painting to coconut shy and tombola.

Around 100 people attended and it raised almost £400 to buy sensory toys for the youngsters.

It was held at the pub as nursery key worker Jeanette Allchin used to be a barmaid there and landlord Alex Burden regularly supports them.

Mrs Allchin said: “It was a nice day and we’ll be able to buy some things for the children and that’s the most important thing.

“I’d like to thank the Ferry House Inn for hosting it and everyone who came along.”

Nursery funds have also had a boost of more than £500 from Mrs Allchin’s sister Trish Kerry, from Warden Bay.

The 49-year-old did a 500-mile walk from St Jean Pied du Port in France, across the Pyrenees, to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Another £60 was also donated by the Ferry House Inn from a clay shoot it hosted.
