How many 106-year-old great-grandmothers do you know?

And how many of them have their own dedicated page on social network site Facebook?

We’re guessing the answer is none, or certainly not many.

But one Sheppey centenarian has gone all 21st century thanks to a couple of the younger members of her clan.

Marjorie Mason celebrated her latest birthday on Monday surrounded by family at her Minster home.

A card from the Queen was the icing on the cake on her special day.

Daughter Jill Gesseau said: “She was so happy when she opened the card and she loved it – she really did.”

The card was just one of many posted to Marjorie’s home for her Valentine’s Day birthday.

Mrs Gesseau, 69, said: “There are so many cards that we haven’t had the chance to put them all up and we are running out of Blu-Tack.”

A party was also held at Invicta House, Kent Avenue, on Saturday, which was attended by family and friends.

Mrs Gesseau presented her mother with a necklace, a bouquet and some of her favourite wine to mark the occasion.

Great-grandmother-of-seven, Marjorie, still enjoys a glass of Sanatogen tonic wine every day and has always been healthy.

Mrs Gesseau said: “She hardly ever takes any medicine and the only thing she has are calcium tablets and occasionally paracetamol.”

But she put the secret of her long life down to her cheerful personality.

“She has an optimistic temperament and is always smiling – she never complains about anything,” said Mrs Gesseau.

Marjorie enjoys watching TV, especially detective programmes, and is a fan of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.

She also likes reading but it's thanks to her grandson Kevin Gesseau and great-nephew Rakim Dixon that she now has a Facebook page.

The pair created it for her to celebrate her long life and it now boasts 185 members.
