FORENSIC tests will determine whether a knife discovered in a Kent town centre was the weapon used to murder a black teenager.

The blade was recovered by officers after a passer-by saw a glint of light from inside a drain in High Street, Sheerness, on Monday.

Specialist officers photographed the scene before donning Latex gloves to remove the black-handled knife.

A police spokesman said all items found during the investigation would be sent away for forensic tests which will reveal if it was the weapon used to kill Christopher Alaneme on Friday, April 21. Officers are treating his death as racially-motivated.

Mark Davies, 29, who is white and was stabbed first, is still in hospital, but his condition has improved.

Police have arrested five men from London on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Four men have been bailed, but a 31-year-old man who was arrested on Monday morning, is still being questioned at a Kent police station.

Detectives still want to speak to Peter Connolly, 29, of Commercial Way in Peckham, south-east London, and are appealing for anyone who knows his whereabouts to contact them.

Supt Steve Corbishley said: “I am appealing for anyone with any information, no matter how trivial they think it may be, to come forward and talk to us.”
