Three of the Island’s beaches have earned a place in the 2009 Good Beach Guide.
Beaches at Sheerness, Leysdown and Minster Leas are included in the guide after passing water bathing tests carried out by the Marine Conservation Society last year.
The Sheerness and Leysdown beaches were highlighted by the society for getting top scores in water quality tests having and good sewage treatment.
Minster was not tested for water quality as it is not classified as a beach resort although the water is tested regularly during the summer.
Graeme Tuff, the council’s greenspaces officer, said: “The inclusion of the three beaches in the Good Beach Guide is just reward for the effort that the council puts into keeping the beaches in great condition for those wanting a great day out. Not only do we have good, well-maintained facilities but most importantly this represents a great team effort by beach cleaners and lifeguards to keep the standards up.”
