The man in charge of Island policing has left Sheppey to start a new role.

Inspector Steve Griffiths was replaced by Inspector Alan Rogers on Monday after almost a year in the job.

Insp Griffiths is now responsible for overseeing performance in mid Kent, after swapping roles with Insp Rogers, who has 15 years’ experience in the police force.

Although he is looking forward to his new position, Insp Griffiths says he will miss working with the Island Neighbourhood Team.

He said: “The role of Island Inspector is unique in Kent and it has been a privilege to work here.

“I built up close relationships with both members of my team and many people in the local community and I will miss them all greatly.

“It has been a very difficult decision to leave the Island, as it is, without doubt, one of the best places I have worked.

“However, when this opportunity to help shape the future success of policing performance in the mid Kent area came up, I felt it was the right time to take this position.

“I am also confident that Insp Rogers will do a fantastic job leading the Island Policing Team, helping to make the area even safer for the future.”

Insp Rogers has been responsible for performance and delivery at mid Kent and says he is looking forward to policing Sheppey.

He said: “Although I realise I have big shoes to fill, I am delighted to be taking up this position in one of the busiest and most rewarding areas in mid Kent. I am no stranger to Swale, having acted in my response capacity as a duty manager for the region many times.

“I intend on using this local knowledge to help fortify the good work already accomplished on the Isle of Sheppey.”
