Dedicated supporters of a Sheppey charity have yet again raised thousands of pounds.
A presentation evening for those who took part in this year’s Paul Trigwell Island Run in May was held on Friday, June 21.
Around 150 of the 700 runners who joined in with the seventh annual event went along to the ceremony at the Isle of Sheppey Academy’s west site in Sheerness. They were all given a medal, and 22 trophies were also presented.
These included to 16-year-old Sheerness resident Christopher Drummond, who was given the Community Award, and Teresa Robson, also from Sheerness, who was presented with the Spirit of Running Award.
A prize draw was done for all runners, and eight-year-old Millie Mackay, from Minster, won a bike. The run supports the Paul
Trigwell Memorial Fund, which was set up in memory of the much loved head teacher of St George’s Middle School in Minster, who died in 2006.
It was announced on Friday that the 2013 fundraiser has collected £10,342 and there is still more sponsorship money expected.
Mr Trigwell’s widow Fiona said: “It was a super evening. It’s amazing how generous people are.
"I’m in an incredibly privileged position to be able to do what I’m doing. Thank you is just inadequate at times like this but it’s all you can say.”
