Islander Geoff Harkup aiming to go one better at the 2010 Sheppey Classic

Geoff Harkup will be aiming to go one better this weekend as he looks to rewrite the Sheppey Darts Classic history books.

Harkup lost last year’s final to Clive Barden having become the first Sheppey-based player to make it to the tournament’s grand finale.

Work commitments meant that Harkup missed out on a place in this week’s finals of the PDC UK Open but he’s hoping to make amends with joy on home soil.

Harkup said: "Let’s hope I can go one better this time around. I’m looking forward to it and because I’m not at Bolton (for the UK Open) this time I’m even more keen to do well.

"Hopefully I can get a good draw and keep away from the main-stayers until I really have to play them."

A £7,000 prize-fund is on offer during the eighth Sheppey Classic which takes place at Merlins in Leysdown on Saturday and Sunday.

Doors are open from 9am on both days with the finals on Sunday, where action starts at 11am with the men’s final expected to be at around 6.30pm. Tickets are £2 for adults and children are admitted free. Money raised will be split between Help for Heroes, Breastcancer Awareness and the Kent Air Ambulance.
