Teenage golfer James Smith is hoping to add to his growing list of accolades this weekend.

Fresh from beating allcomers, including club captain Paul Mason, at Sheerness Golf Club’s Britain and Dawes Tournament, he teams up with father Mark for a family affair.

The 14-year-old from Eastchurch will compete in the British Father & Son Championship at Belton Woods in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

Smith senior said: "Hopefully that will give us a bit of form going into this competition.

"We only finished two points away from the winners last time, which was the first time we had entered.

"The winner goes through to the European event and that would be great. We are hoping to go two better and win it. I am proud of James, he is playing well."

James had his handicap reduced from eight to seven after the recent Sheerness win.

The adult section winner was Mason (h5) with 39 points.

Because of his age, Fulston Manor pupil Smith had to settle for the junior title despite finishing with 44 points - a 71 gross score.
