It's already all systems go for the organisers of a summer flower and craft festival.
Back in November, we reported how volunteers were desperately needed to ensure this year’s Flowers in a Country Church Festival at Harty could go ahead after it had to be cancelled last year.
Since then, those responsible for staging the event have been overwhelmed by the response they’ve had from people willing to give up their time.
Because of this, church warden Colin Patience said he is pleased to announce the 2011 festival will definitely take place on the weekend of July 2-3.
Last year, news that the event would not be going ahead was met with disappointment across the Island and further afield, but the committee was forced to pull the plug because of a lack of volunteers.
Mr Patience said there is lots of preparation work involved and organisers are already writing to all the original stall-holders as well as some that haven’t been to the festival previously.
There will be live music over the two days, as well as dozens of stalls selling home-made produce such as honey and jam.
Mr Patience said: “Last year we were most discontented that we had to cancel the annual flower and craft festival.
“It’s amazing the number of people across not only the Island but the mainland who phoned saying how disappointed they were.
“But we had quite a response from people willing to help – it’s been quite humbling that it had become so popular.
“We are hoping to make a resounding comeback and we are getting good support from our friends at the Ferry House Inn.
“Although it’s early days yet – it’s all systems go.”
