Kind hearted pupils at an Island primary school have organised a fund-raising day to raise money for the survivors of the Haiti earthquake.
Children at Queenborough School and Nursery have been so moved by the news and pictures of the disaster, that they will be spending the day raising money on Friday.
Students who want to take part, can pay a minimum of £1 to wear non-school uniform and teachers must pay at least £5 to dress down in jeans or £1 to dress up as clowns.
There will also be fund-raising taking place in class for youngsters to raise more money.
Year five pupil at the school, Joe Jacobs, organised the event because he said he was so upset when he saw children who had lost their parents and had nowhere to live, no medical supplies and no food or clean water that he just wanted to help.
After suggesting the idea to his classmates in Turquoise Class, he and his fellow pupil Molly Mepstead and their teacher Claire Jackson helped organise the event.
Head teacher at the school, Barbara Conroy, said: “The children of Queenborough School are very caring and proactive.
“This is all their work and their plans – I am so proud of them. The teachers are only too willing to join in and support their cause.
“The children will be writing their own news report about the fund-raising day as a record so that we can display their charitable work around the school for our visitors to see.”
