Tributes have been paid to a “kind and genuine” factory worker who died after being hit by a car.
James Cattaneo was killed just weeks before his 35th birthday after he was struck by a BMW along an unlit country road.
The 34-year-old was hit along Sheppey Way, at Iwade near Sittingbourne, at 1.44am on Saturday, February 3.
James, who lived on Queenborough High Street, Sheppey, was confirmed dead at the scene.
At the time of the incident, police said a white BMW 116 hatchback, travelling north-east towards Sheerness, struck a pedestrian.
The driver was treated in hospital for minor injuries and officers were appealing for witnesses.
Police have been contacted for further information.
On Monday, February 19, assistant coroner, Sarah Clarke, opened an inquest into James’ death.
She said: “The collision took place on the carriageway and Mr Cattaneo died at the scene which was an unlit country lane.”
James, who was born on February 22, 1989, worked for FloPlast, a manufacturer and supplier of plastic building and plumbing systems based on the Eurolink Business Park in Sittingbourne.
After learning of his death James’s employer paid tribute to its “highly regarded” worker.
A spokesman for FloPlast said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of James.
“He was one of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever wish to meet.
“He will be greatly missed by all at FloPlast who had the pleasure to work alongside him; he was a highly regarded, well-liked and valued member of our team.”
Others left tributes of condolences to his family on social media.
A full inquest into Mr Cattaneo’s death will take place on August 6.
