The coastguard and RNLI were called after a group of people, including children, were cut off by the tide at a beach.

The group of about seven or eight were walking to the sandbanks at Minster Leas beach on Sheppey when the tide came in about an hour ago.

The coastguard called a helicopter but it was not needed in the end and the Sheppey RNLI returned some of the group to safety in a boat.

Others were able to walk across under supervision of the coastguard and RNLI.

The coastguard's Tim Judge said: "A member of the public called it in. They walked out to the sandbanks and had not noticed the tide. The tide comes in really quickly and then you have got water between you and the shore."

"The safety advice we gave them was that people need to be aware of the tidal conditions if they are walking out to the sandbanks."

It is understood all of the group were found safe and well.
