The Island’s football community is mourning the death of player Lucy Kerr.
The 20-year-old, from Sheppey, died last Monday after a short battle with cancer.
Sheppey Angels Football Club, for which Lucy played, said the loss of one of its “much-loved players” had left the club devastated.
She was described as an incredible player.
“Her ability on the pitch was outstanding – you’ll never find a player like her,” the club said in a statement.
“She put in 110% into every match and we were lucky to have her as part of our football family.”
It went on to say Lucy was a “beautiful, amazing and talented young lady” who would “light up the pitch like never seen before”.
“Lucy, you’ll always be a Sheppey Angel...”
“It was an absolute honour to have her as a player here at Sheppey Angels.
“Lucy, you will never be forgotten and you’ll always be a Sheppey Angel.”
AFC Minster, at Sheppey Sports Ground, Halfway, also paid tribute, saying: “Lucy was a key member of the all-conquering Sheppey Angels and was an established member of the Island’s footballing community.
“A few of us at AFC Minster were privileged to have known Lucy and are devastated by the sad news.”
“We pray her friends and family somehow find the strength to bear the sad loss.”
Lucy had also played for Charlton Athletic Women’s FC after joining the club’s under 14s team in 2013.
She progressed into the club’s under 16s and went on to play and captain Kent Schools before making the step up to play senior football with the club’s development team.
Riteesh Mishra, manager of Charlton Athletic Women FC, remembered Lucy for her infectious personality.
“She was there at the start of my journey with Charlton as a coach with the under 16s. Her personality and attitude in particular were infectious and she always put a smile on the faces of staff. She will be in our thoughts and forever be part of our Charlton family.”
A balloon release was held at Sheppey Sports Ground on Sunday in Lucy’s memory.
