Magicians and musicians are all doing their bit to help raise money for the Oliver Smith Appeal.
An album produced to add to the total is due to be launched this weekend and a magician has set a date to do his own night of fundraising.
Minster singer/songwriter Jody Bodiam came up with the idea of the Help Oliver CD after reading about the youngster’s plight.
The three-year-old has the childhood cancer neuroblastoma and his family is trying to raise £150,000 for treatment he could need in Germany if his condition gets worse.
Although he has just had his chemotherapy lines removed, Oliver has a 80-95% chance of relapsing until he is 21.
If he does not need the money, it will be redistributed to causes related to neuroblastoma through the charity Families Against Neuroblastoma, which Oliver and his mum Natalie are members of.
The launch night for the CD will take place at The Beach pub, Seaside Avenue, Minster, on Saturday from 7pm.
Kyle Barton, who runs mobile recording company Stegosaurus Studios, helped Jody produce it.
Twelve local musicians came forward to record tracks for the album and some of them will be performing live at the launch event.
CDs will be on sale for £5 and there will also be collection buckets for the appeal.
Entry is free and all profits will be going to Oliver.
Meanwhile, Sheerness magician Terry Rea has organised a fundraising night.
He will be doing close up magic tricks with cards and coins at the Royal Pub in Sheerness before heading to the Playa in Minster to do the same.
London firefighter Terry will be at the Royal on Wednesday, December 21, from 7pm to 9pm and he will then go to the Playa. Everyone is invited to go along and watch Terry’s magic and donate to the appeal.
The 39-year-old said he wanted to do something to raise money for a local boy.
This week the total has been boosted by £350 to £53,073.
The money was raised by a donation of 5p from every copy sold of the STG edition of September 15.
Editor Matt Ramsden said: “We are really pleased to be able to put our own money where our mouth is and donate this amount to the fund.”
Events still to come for the Oliver Smith Appeal.
