A man has been arrested after police chased a van in the early hours of this morning.

Shortly after midnight, officers attempted to stop a van they believed was being driven erratically on Brielle Way in Sheerness.

The vehicle did not stop as requested and was found abandoned at the dead end of Jefferson Road, Sheerness, a short time later.

Officers carried out a search of the area and subsequently arrested a man, of no fixed address, on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, theft and going equipped for theft.

The 23-year-old remains in custody.
