A man who was awarded a £500,000 settlement after being run over by a taxi has spoken out of his six-year ordeal to rebuild his life.

Alan Howard, 30, who used to manage the Trafalgar Hotel, has been told he will never work again after an accident left him with severe head and knee injuries.

His nightmare started six years ago after a night out to celebrate his then partner’s birthday.

To this day, he can’t remember exactly what happened, but he knows he was run over by a taxi in the early hours of the morning.

Alan from Sheerness has frontal lobe syndrome, which is characterised by a change in behaviour and personality in a previously normal individual.

He left the High Court last Tuesday with £500,000, which the insurance company of Royal Taxis agreed to pay him based on it being an accident.

Although he received a huge pay out he says most of it will go towards the care he will need for the rest of his life and what he really wants is to be able to go back to work, but he has been told this is not possible.

He said: “There’s no bad feelings on my part – it was purely an accident but I’m glad it’s all sorted it’s been six years of hell.

“The money has to pay for my care for the rest of my life so I haven’t got a bulging pocket."
