A pair of men have been charged with a series of thefts after hundreds of pounds of dog food and alcohol were stolen from shops.

Yesterday (January 22) two men went into Tesco in Bridge Road, Sheerness, and – after they had left – it was discovered more than £150 worth of spirits had been stolen.

Police were called who watched CCTV footage and took details from staff.

Later that morning, it is alleged the same men returned to the shop and police were alerted by an employee.

An officer arrived and two men were arrested.

Phillip King and Durand Cole, both of Alder Close, Sheerness, were later charged with two separate thefts.

The pair were also charged with the theft of pet food valued at more than £300 from a shop in Queensway on three separate occasions, between December 12 and 24.

Cole was also charged with criminal damage to a container at the Queensway premises.

King, 61, and Cole, 48, were remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates Court today (January 23).
