Michael Crawford to open centre in home town

ENTERTAINER Michael Crawford will return to his Sheppey roots on Monday when he opens a centre for people with learning problems. The star of stage and screen, who grew up on the island, will open the Crawford Centre at Edenbridge Drive, Sheerness, at 11am.

The centre, funded by Kent County Council Social Services and Amicus, which includes Swale Housing Association, has replaced the smaller Davie Court Unit nearby and provides a range of social educational and recreational services, as well as links with the community.

When users of the centre discovered Michael Crawford's links with Sheppey, they decided to name it in honour of the celebrity and ask him to open it.
