An impressive collection of almost 400 model vehicles has gone on display.

The haul belongs to Ian Hurkett, co-founder of the Blue Town Heritage Centre – where the exhibition is currently on.

He has been adding to his hoard for more than 20 years, but the toys had all been boxed up since he and his wife Jenny moved to Blue Town from Minster in 2008 when Ian fell ill with heart failure.

Jenny said it was when they were clearing space to improve the heritage centre that it was suggested they go on display.

There is a mixture of home-made and bought lorries, cars, cranes, planes and even a model the 65-year-old made of what the Vestas wind turbines would have looked like if they were loaded on to lorries from the docks.

“Ian started off making the toys from kits but he makes them from scratch now too,” Jenny said. “He’s got the patience of a saint. For boys and their toys it’s a really interesting exhibition.”

The exhibition at the centre in High Street, Blue Town, will be open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 3pm, until the end of September.
