Police have quashed rumours of a double dog shooting in Minster last night.

Two canines were found dead at the junction of Minster Road and Harps Avenue at 7.07pm.

A police spokesman said a driver had stopped after feeling his car hit something.

He found the two animals in the road and immediately called the police.

The spokesman added that it was not clear if the dogs had already been hit by another car or where they came from.

No criminal proceedings have been launched.

Rumours began circulating on Facebook and Twitter last night that the animals had been shot, but police have said that was not what had happened.
