A FRESH spate of arson attacks in a Kent street as left resident living in fear.
Joan McCall, of George’s Avenue, Sheerness, woke at 5.30am Sunday to find recycling she had been collecting for local scouts and cubs groups alight in a trailer outside her home.
She woke husband Bob and they tried to put the fire out with a garden hose but it had frozen, and the couple called 999.
They were soon joined by firefighters who had been putting out another blaze in a nearby bin.
Mrs McCall said: “I’m a light sleeper and woke up at 5.30am to see the flames flickering outside in the trailer. I’m just amazed someone even bothered to start the fire at this time of the morning.”
The incidents come two months after the street was targeted by an arsonist who lit six fires over the course of a week – destroying a car, a Transit van and ruining a community centre. In the most serious attack, four-year-old Esme Targar was sleeping in her bedroom just metres from her dad’s Transit van when it was torched.
Luckily, neighbour Chris Tomlin alerted the family before the petrol tank exploded.
Anyone who can help police investigations into these incidents is asked to call 01795 47055 or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
