More events have been planned to raise money for cancer sufferer Oliver Smith.

The three-year-old has neuroblastoma and his family are trying to raise £150,000 for treatment he is likely to need in Germany if his condition gets worse.

Last week we reported how generous Islanders have reached the £50,000 mark through fundraising and sponsored events they have organised.

The total has carried on rising and this week has been boosted to £52,123.

Steve Craig, 38, put £1,500 towards that total by doing a sponsored sky-dive on Saturday.

It had been due to take place in August but was rained off.

Dock worker Steve, from Minster, jumped 12,000ft from a plane in Headcorn to raise the money and said he loved it.

Queenborough Bowls Club held a barbecue and raffle on Sunday which Oliver and his mum Natalie went along to.

That raised £220 for the appeal.

Last week we also reported how a team of firefighters from Sheppey's red watch manage to row 34 miles round the Island in under eight hours.

Their sponsorship total has been added to since our story - reaching £2,822 - but they are desperate to reach their £3,000 target.

The fundraising is still going on - with more events planned for the coming weeks.

Oliver's step brother and sister , Alfie Smith, eight, and Jade Carpenter, 13, have organised a sponsored walk.

They will be joined by friends Kiele Evans, Kieron Evans, Chloe Luxton and Kai Upson.

The walk will be on Sunday, November 6, from Sittingbourne train station to Beachfields, Sheerness.

Alfie and Jade's mum Natasha Carpenter said they are hoping to raise about £1,000.

"We are really looking forward to it - the kids wanted to do something to help Oliver," she added.

Jenna Yates, who works at the Easy Shopper in Sheerness is planning to have her long locks chopped to raise money too.

The 23-year-old, whose hair is so long she can sit on it, will be having a new shorter style cut on Saturday.
