A mum is calling for urgent road safety measures after she was almost hit by a car as she stepped out of her front door.

Kay Dickinson said drivers constantly speed up High Street, Blue Town, and mount the pavement outside her home.

The 31-year-old has contacted Kent Police and Kent Highways in the hope they can install traffic calming or safety bollards.

Miss Dickinson’s main concern is for her two young children.

“If it had hit me, my four-year-old son would have seen me seriously injured or dead,” she said.

“There’s quite a large path outside but I still nearly got hit by a speeding four-wheel drive that was on the path.

“It’s often my son or daughter in her pushchair who go out the door ahead of me and they would be dead if they were hit.

“We constantly have people drive and park on the path and drive the wrong way down the one-way road – it’s horrendous.”

Full-time mother Miss Dickinson reported the incident to police, who she said were sympathetic but cannot take any action unless they have CCTV of a crime or they can catch someone in the act.

She has also informed Kent Highways but claims they said they could not do anything unless there was an accident.

“I’m getting passed from pillar to post but not getting any answers and I’m not happy with that at all,” she added.

“All I have got are these horrific images in my head that it could have been either one or both of my children that could have died.

“It’s one bollard to prevent death.”

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed it had received a report of bad driving but said the installation of safety measures was for Kent Highways to consider.

Miss Dickinson said she had made a request to Kent Highways for a bollard to be put in.

They were unavailable for comment when contacted by the Times Guardian.
