THE mother of Christopher Alaneme, the teenager stabbed in a racially-motivated incident, has paid tribute to her son and urged anyone who has not yet come forward with information to contact detectives.

Agatha Alaneme has described 18-year-old Christopher, from Sheerness, as a "lovely, humble, respectful, polite and promising young man".

She isssued the statement as police continue their inquiries into Christopher’s murder and the stabbing of another man who was released from hospital on Monday.

The statement read: "It has now been 17 days since my lovely and only son Chris was taken from me. It has been a huge and devastating loss to our family, and everyone that knew him.

"I would like to ask those people who saw what happened, or saw or heard anything which may help to come forward. Please do not hesitate, otherwise history could repeat itself.

"Chris is gone. It could be someone else tomorrow. I would like to put a stop to that. We don’t wish that on any other family. This has ripped my heart apart and that of the whole family.’

The stabbings happpened in Sheerness High Street shortly before midnight on Friday, April 21.

Kent Police are continuing to question a 29-year-old man who was arrested on Friday last week when he walked into a police station in London with his solicitor.

The man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. On Monday night at 9pm magistrates granted officers a further 27-hour extension to hold him in custody.

Four other men have previously been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and have been bailed. One other man has been arrested in connection with the investigation and has also been bailed.

Detectives investigating the stabbings are continuing to urge anyone who has not come forward but may have information about what happened to contact the incident room hotline – 01622 654860.

Supt Steve Corbishley, the Mid Kent policing area’s deputy commander, stressed: "."It is still really important that anyone who saw any of the events that night or who knows something about what happened should contact the police."
