Not many people can say they have received a birthday card from the Queen and even fewer can say they have more than one.
Nellie Morgan turned 105 on Wednesday, July 3 and she got a personal message from Her Majesty to add to the one she collected for turning 100.
Mrs Morgan was born in Maidstone in 1908 and shortly after her birth her father got a job at Sheerness Dockyard.
She grew up in the town’s Jefferson Road and in her youth she enjoyed swimming and gymnastics.
She attended the National School, near Holy Trinity Church, and the Alexandra Road School before she left education at the age of 12.
She went to work at a photography shop on the corner of Meyrick Road and Alma Road where she would retouch the pictures with a pencil so they would look perfect.
Later on she worked for Coles Stationers in Sheerness and also taught at the Dockyard school although she had no children herself.
She met her husband Henry, who was an engineer in the docks, when she was 25 and they enjoyed going on holidays to Margate together.
Mrs Morgan is a resident at Blackburn Lodge, in Broadway, Sheerness, where a celebration was held on Wednesday to mark the milestone.
Judy Thompson, senior team leader at the care home, said: “She was quite alert for her birthday and we decorated the lounge for it.
“They had a special tea and we are going to send photos of it to her niece Linda.”
