Land at Sheerness steel mill is being filled with vehicles from the neighbouring docks.

New cars can be seen through a gate at the roundabout on Brielle Way from the main entrance.

It is believed there could be more than 1,000 being left on land which used to be the outside storage areas of the bar and rod mill.

The plot has been vacant since January 2012 when Thamesteel went into administration.

Earlier this month, we reported on the end of a legal wrangle over the site’s assets between the landowner, Peel Land and Property, and Thamesteel’s owners, Al Tuwairqi Holding Company.

Peel Ports, which imports cars from the docks, belongs to the same group as Peel Land.

A spokesman for Peel Land said he was unable to give a specific number for how many cars are being stored there but said it is a short-term measure to meet the need to find space for newly-registered vehicles.

The future of the steel mill is yet to be decided but it believed demolition work might begin on the site in the coming months.
