Swale Borough Council has appointed an interim chief executive.
Mike Fisher started work on Monday and will hold the position for at least six months, working three days a week.
Mr Fisher has 30 years experience working in the public sector.
He said: “I worked with the council for a short period at the end of last year.
“On returning, I am very pleased to see the progress made by the council in the intervening period.
“The last few months have involved a number of challenges for the council and I now look forward to working with colleagues, the executive and partners over the next six months to maintain this progress.”
Mr Fisher’s priorities over the coming months will include advising the council on future management arrangements and delivering a financial strategy for 2009/10.
The leader of the council, Cllr Andrew Bowles, added: “This appointment will enable our excellent senior managers to concentrate on their directorates and achieving our objective of becoming a high performing organisation.”
