Oasis Academy has announced a new head teacher to take over at the helm of the Sheppey school in September.
Current deputy head and English teacher John Cavadino is set to replace the departing David Millar after he announced his decision to quit the role in early February.
Mr Millar took up the post as executive principal in September 2013, having moved from another Oasis Trust school in Coulsdon in Croydon.
The Island academy has been plagued by years of under-performance, including less than a quarter (24.4%) of pupils gaining five A* to C GCSEs, including English and maths, last year.
On national results’ day, the school refused to release its grades, citing marking discrepancies and announcing scores of exam papers would have to be looked at again.
The announcement of Mr Millar’s departure marked the fifth change of leadership since the £54 million school was launched in 2009.
Mr Cavadino joined the academy at the same time as Mr Millar and played a large role in implementing major changes at the school over the past two years.
He said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the principal of the Oasis Academy, Isle of Sheppey, with effect from September.
“Since joining the academy as associate principal in 2013, it has been a privilege to work with students, staff and families.
“I look forward to leading the school in the years to come.”
Mr Millar also offered his congratulations, saying: “I am very pleased indeed that John’s appointment, experience and knowledge of the Island offers continuity of leadership as the academy continues on its journey.
“I look forward to working with John over the coming months to secure the best outcomes for students in their exams and ensure a smooth handover for September.”
