Students of the new Isle of Sheppey Academy have come up with names for the five new buildings which will make up the school.
Sponsors of the £54 million academy invited students, parents and members of the community to think of names for the five “family units” which make up the academy.
When the academy opens its doors this September, there will be two schools of 500 pupils each on the Cheyne Middle School site and the Minster College site will have three schools of 500 students each.
Danley, Cheyne, St George’s and Minster College will all close with the opening of the academy on September 1, and St George’s will re-open as a primary school.
The idea of challenging the students and parents to come up with names was because the sponsors want the names to withstand the test of time.
They wanted five names which would work together and represent the Island in some way.
The names could reflect the Island’s history, geography or ecology in some way.
After looking at all the suggestions, the sponsors, in conjunction with the academy’s senior leadership team, have decided on Abbey, Brabazon, Harty, Sheerness and Shurland.
