New salon and barbers, called Good Head His & Hers, to open in former Leysdown cafe

A new salon and barbers is set to open at the end of the month.

Good Head His & Hers has taken over what was the Cosy Café in Leysdown, opposite the doctors’ surgery.

As well as a hair salon, it will have a brow bar, nail desk, treatment room and a separate barbers, which will also offer hot towel shaves.

Owner Debbie Glover, 33, bought the former café with her husband Daniel.

The mother-of-two, who has been a hairdresser and barber since she was 18, said: “For years I have wanted my own barbers.

“This came up for sale and we live down the road, so we thought we’d go for it. When we came to look at it, it was way too big for a barbers, so we decided to expand on our original idea.”

When asked if she thought Leysdown needed such a shop, Debbie said: “I think Leysdown gets left out. It’s like the other end of the Island, but we have so many visitors who come here. If we don’t bring something nice, people aren’t going to keep coming and there are loads of residents living in Warden, Bay View and Eastchurch who have to go to Sheerness to have their hair or nails done, so it’ll be good for them too.”

The couple first showed an interest in buying the building in October 2017 and got the keys in January last year - but it’s needed a complete overhaul.

Work has included rebuilding an internal wall, replacing the roof and all the windows and doors. A wildlife pond and seating area has also been created out the back of the shop.

“Daniel and I have both been doing whatever we can, we’ve spent a lot of time down here,” Debbie said. “We’ve done it all so people feel at home when they’re here.”

Good Head His & Hers will hold an opening event on Saturday, February 29.

“We’re going to have music, give out loyalty cards and vouchers - it’s for people to come in, have a look and meet the people who are working here,” Debbie said.
