Boy band Nicole Jane, who have been touring with Lemar, N-Dubz, Tinie Tempah, Ne-Yo, Timberland and Lily Allen, have filmed their latest video in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey.
Lead singer Jace Carreira, who lives on the Kent island, said: “Since moving here I have come to love it. I’m really glad we managed to film the video on the beach. The sun was out and it actually looks like it was shot in Tenerife!”
The London-born singer has been living on Sheppey for the past five years. His younger brothers Alfie-J and Dieu make up the rest of the band.
Jace, 27, recalled: “As far as I was concerned, I was going to become a professional footballer. I was playing for Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic youth teams but it didn’t work out due to major injuries.”
“Alfie, my younger brother, was already in a five-piece harmony group but they were having difficulties. I went along to watch and asked if I could help. Incredibly, we realised we had something special.”
“It has been hard work but it is starting to pay off.”

The trio are being tipped for the top. Their cover of Adele’s Someone Like You was You Tube’s most-viewed R&B music video in 2012, comfortably beating Justin Bieber. Now the lads have released their much-anticipated debut EP Back 2 BASSics. The video for one of the tracks, Beauty, chalked up around 25,000 internet hits in under two weeks without any mainstream promotion.
The band boasts they were the first unsigned band to top the MySpace charts three years in a row (2008, 2009 and 2010) with more than four million hits. Their energetic shows have led to headline performances at six sell-out stadium tours of Russia and Romania. They have also played in Germany, Poland, France and Belgium.
They supported Lemar on a 22-date tour of the UK. But the pop star had a shock when he knocked on their dressing room door backstage at the Apollo Manchester.
Jace, speaking at the Belle and Lion pub, Sheerness, admitted: “Lemar seemed a bit surprised to discover three lads instead of a female. It was a bit scary as it was our first big show and the theatre was packed. But we went down really well, especially with the girls.”
“I think they were expecting to see a female singer, too, and were making their way to the bar when we came on. They couldn’t believe it when three guys came on stage. The queue at the end of the show for our autographs was massive.”
The lads have also performed at the Island's Oasis Academy as a special favour to late choir leader Janie Van Den Berg, who died suddenly just before Christmas.
Jace was one of the lead singers of her Broadway Choir which will perform as part of a memorial service for the musician this Saturday (January 16) at 11.30am at the Academy’s Sheerness campus.
The promotional video for the band’s most recent single Sketches was shot on Sheerness beach, opposite the Ship on Shore pub, and is dedicated to Janie.
Jace admitted: “I had no idea where Sheppey was until I met my ex-girlfriend who lives in Sheerness. In fact, it was only when we were touring across the county as part of a kmfm schools’ roadshow in association with Kent Police that I first saw a sign for Sheerness on the M2!”
