Highways bosses say they do not plan to reduce a road’s speed limit despite a petition with more than 1,500 signatures calling for action.
Mother-of-four Elizabeth Grogan started a campaign last summer to get the limit lowered from 60mph to 30mph in Plough Road, between Minster and Eastchurch, on Sheppey.

She said it was aimed at saving the lives of residents and holidaymakers.
Since then, it’s been signed by more than 1,580 people.
The 57-year-old nurse, who has lived in Plough Road for five and a half years, presented it to Swale council – when it had 640 signatures – which then passed it to Kent County Council’s (KCC) highway’s department.
Last week, a KCC spokesman said it did not plan to take any action.
“The collision record for Plough Road for the last three years has been checked and there have been few collisions, with no pattern to these in terms of location or contributory factors.
"For this reason, it is difficult to prioritise this site against areas where a pattern of incidents is occurring and our engineering intervention could help reduce crashes," he said.
“Therefore, at this stage, we have no programmed works on these roads and do not plan to take any action as a result of the petition.”
Elizabeth said she was not going to give up.
“When I received the letter, I was in disbelief. Over 1,500 people have signed the online petition.
"When you consider Sheppey, that’s massive – and it’s still going up. I feel optimistic, it’s absolutely the right direction and so many people feel it’s the right thing to do.”
She said even more people were using Plough Road to get to the east end of the Island as Eastchurch Road is closed for eight weeks while a new gas pipe is being installed.
“Lots of people use the road, it’s narrow, there’s absolutely no lighting – it’s so dangerous. It should not be a 60mph limit.”
