A 36-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court to answer charges of possessing false identity documents.
Qing Zhuan You appeared at Sittingbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Tuesday) after being arrested on Sunday at an address in Broadway, Sheerness. He is due back in court on Tuesday.
Police swooped on a building and arrested four people on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.
Although police have not confirmed the exact location of the arrests,witnesses saw officers at the building, formerly part of the Victoria Club.
One witness, who asked not to be named, said: “There were loads of police there, I don’t know what it was regarding.”Another woman, who also asked not to be named, said two weeks ago she saw women taking large bowls of what appeared to be food into the building.
Officers arrested a man and a woman and returned later in the day with officers from the UK Border Immigration Agency and arrested another two men.
All four were Chinese and were arrested on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.One man was handed over to the UK Border Immigration Agency and was taken to a detention centre in Dover.

A spokesman for the UK Border Immigration Agency said: “Three individuals were swiftly and successfully transferred to our specialist teams of officers within hours. “We will remove those with no right to remain in the UK.”
