A person is being held by police after reportedly jumping from the Sheppey Crossing.

Emergency crews including the Sheerness lifeboat, Sheppey Coastguard and Coastguard helicopter were called to search the area.

They received reports a person had possibly jumped from the bridge at around 11.30pm last night.

The volunteer lifeboat team arrived at 11.45pm and scoured the area surrounding the crossing.

They were stood down when police confirmed the person had been found safe and well in Sheppey and detained.
