The boss of a popular family firm is to retire after 25 years.
Chris Driver, 67, owner of CD Supplies in High Street, Blue Town, said it did not necessarily mean he would be taking things easy from now on.
“I’ll never rest,” he said. “I’ll still be playing music and popping into work now and then to help with deliveries.
“But I don’t need the responsibility any more. I’m happy to hand over to the youngsters.”
Chris, a former mayor of Queenborough and a Monster Raving Loony Party member, said his daughter, Heidi, will be taking care of business which involves selling specialised engineering tools.
He set up the firm having worked as a salesman. The father-of-two, who also has five grandchildren, predicted his new-found leisure time will be taken up with family duties.
It will also allow the musician more creative space to perform in Sheppey’s pubs and clubs.
Chris, whose other daughter, Sudi, runs Flynn’s Bee Farm in Brambledown, said he was already “loving” retirement.
“I like not having to set the alarm clock any more,” he said. “The trouble is, when you get older, you end up waking up through the night, anyway.”
