UK Power Networks issue warning over power cut on Isle of Sheppey, affecting more than 1,000 houses

A total of 1,102 homes in Sheerness and Minster were affected by a power cut.

Phones across the area rang with an automated warning over possible loss of electricity at around 10.45am.

According to texts from UK Power Networks, an overhead cable has come down affecting the Queenborough Drive area, engineers are on their way to the site.

A spokesman said: "For safety reasons we turned off supplies in Minster at to attend to a report of a fault on the electricity network.

"Supplies were restored to all but 208 customers at 11.41am.

"Engineers will be restoring supplies as quickly as possible. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused."

It is now estimated power will be restored by between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
